Rainlendar is a customizable calendar that displays the current month. It is a very lightweight application that doesn't use much system resources or take much space on your desktop. Here's what's new: # Fixed event sorting again. Hopefully it now works correctly. # iCalendar plugin wrote also done todo-items to the ics-file. Fixed. # ToolTip used always the default font. Fixed. # Imported iCal events were sometimes a day too long. Fixed. # GrowUpwards didn't work correctly with the e...
Deren Smith at Neowin has written an article with his concerns about Apple's new Cinema display. Apparently they die off earlier than most displays and Apple won't provide an extended warranty without first buying a PowerMac. Read the whole thing.

While Novell is arguing that it's next desktop Linux will be better than Windows, Linspire, the user friendly version of Linux, is available and early reviews look promising. That said, one has to wonder if Linux advocates were asleep during the 90s when IBM's OS/2 Warp wasn't just slightly better than Microsoft Windows 3.0, 3.1, and 95 (i.e. undisputeably) but massively better but still lost. OS/2 lost because IBM couldn't get major PC vendors to pre-load OS/2 instead of Windows.&n...
T-man and Nakor have successfully migrated the new servers over. Hopefully things will soon be significantly faster and more reliable than before. Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be able to set up new servers. In case you're wondering, the colo we were at was literally out of electrical power that they could spare to new servers. So as all of the Stardock servers got busier, there was not much we could do to speed things up other than try to optimize code further and further.

To better assist Windows users wanting to convert to the Macintosh, Apple is apparently working on a two-button mouse. One of the hot topics at this year's Game Developer Conference was the soaring costs of game development. In a couple of months, the next-generation consoles will be introduced and along with their increased capabilities comes increased expectations on what the top games will deliver. Many developers lament that because costs are growing so high, publishers are becoming much more risk adverse which in turn stifles creativity. But that isn't the full issue. Is it really an is...
DesktopX 3 will be released in two days (this Tuesday). In the meantime, here are two more journal entries of doing things with DesktopX 3. Journal day 7 shows how you can make a really cool skinned media player in 3 minutes without writing a single line of code. Journal day 8 shows how to combine the wonders of Flash and DesktopX together in a matter of minutes to create flash games and other flash based media that can then be turned into fully "skinnable" programs to distribute. Day...

In a statement to customers and press, Microsoft is advising customers to "access MSN services and features with their preferred browser and by setting up a My MSN page as a portal to their favorite online destinations." Customers will still be able to use the MSN Messenger service but will be unable to use MSN Explorer for Mac OS X. It's not clear what p...
I don't think most people realize this but I receive approximately 1,200 to 1,600 email each day. Of it, about 300 of it I have to look at and I usually have time to respond to about 60 or so each day (sometimes more depending on the day). So anyway, for all of you who email me that don't get a response, I apologize!!
