PLYMOUTH, MI- April 7, 2008 - Stardock and Gas Powered Games announced today that they have reached a publishing agreement for Gas Powered Games' upcoming PC game, Demigod. Demigod is a team-based action game with RTS and RPG elements. Players take control of a massive Demigod with the goal of annihilating their opponent's position in a given arena while preventing the opponent's Demigod from doing the same to them. Although the game supports superb one-on-one duels, the title will truly shi...

One of the things the Gas Powered Games team is working on is the end-game screen. At the end of a match (as well as in-game in real-time to a lesser degree) players are going to want to see statistics on how each player did. One of the things we've been playing around with is having achievement points be based on how many categories you led in.  In this way, the statistics aren't just interesting, they become part of the game play itself since achievement points are what help you ...

The first Demigod ad has gone to press.  As someone who has been a fan boy of Gas Powered Games since Chris Taylor founded it 10 years ago, I am getting a very good feeling about the direction Demigod is taking.  I feel almost (okay completely) evil in that what is available to the beta testers is such a subset of what's actually available internally.  But Beta 2 which is due out in a few weeks aims to begin changing that. Demigod is going to be a challenge to m...

For those of you who have been in the Demigod beta so far, the thing to remember is that that build has been a mere engine test. Beta 2 is where the real game mechanics come in. The actual "fun" part of the game really starts to show up.  Generals, upgradable Citadels, strategic objectives, etc.  It should also be the first big availability of ImpulseReactor's "cloud" multiplayer (if it works right, it should make getting games going a snap).  We're hoping to get this out befor...

Hi guys, just a note where we're at.  It doesn't look like we're going to have the beta ready in time for Thanksgiving.  It's pretty close but even if we made it by Wednesday, with so many people off for Thanksgiving, it's just not one of those things we would feel good about putting up and leaving.  We hopefully will have it the following week. Now, that said, let's talk about some of the stuff the team at Gas Powered Games is working on as well as things we're contemplating...

This screenshot is of a test on low-end hardware (playing on my laptop) to see how well the game scales between relatively low-end hardware. As incredible the graphics are in Demigod, the hardware requirements are the same as Forged Alliance (Geforce 66x series / ATI Xanything or better). But here's the first look at the Citadel upgrades coming in Beta 2.  The GPG team is working hard to get Beta 2 ready to go, there's just so much stuff coming together and we are pleased to me...

I'm trying out the staged build of Demigod off of Impulse right now on my work machine.  Hopefully this will help players walk through what it's like. I'll be updating this as I go along... Installed. Running. Into the game My fresh install of Vista doesn't seem to cut it with the base nVidia drivers. So I run dxdiag: ---------------  Display Devices  ---------------          Card name: ...

The GPG team has submitted a candidate for Beta 2 early this morning for testing.  The big hang up has been the Internet integration between Demigod and Impulse Reactor. It's a very interesting discussion I think that I thought I'd share with you guys. Impulse Reactor is an overall platform that allows developers to make use of a whole range of Internet services from Impulse without having to have Impulse loaded.  So there is a DLL called ImpulseReactor.dll in with the game o...

In the next few weeks, we'll be close enough to release to start talking more about all the cool stuff that we haven't had in the betas so far. Stay tuned.

You can see part 1 here . This journal entry outlines how the user manual is being created. Ever saw a manual you thought was weak or lame? Now is your chance to provide your own feedback on a manual before it goes out to the printer.   Getting Started You have been chosen to compete in the Arenas of Rokkur in a contest against your rivals to ascend from the mortal places into the Pantheon of the Gods. You shall battle alone as well as be on teams of convenience w...

I’ve arrived in Seattle and we’re play testing the new build. I must say, the new game modes are REALLY fun.  One tweak we made today is that controlling flags will cause war score to go up. Citadel upgrades will cost a certain amount of gold to purchase and require a certain war score to be available to purchase. The combination makes the game play a lot more fun. It’s hard to describe but those of you in the beta will see soon. Our goal remains to get a build up this ...

Greetings and happy new year! For those of you in the beta for Demigod, we are currently working on a new build that we hope to release this Thursday which will have a lot of improvements to the multiplayer code. We don’t anticipate there being any big new features in this build, we really want to focus on the connectivity. Tomorrow, I leave for CES (Consumer Electronics Show).  I’ll be live-blogging there at http://www.impulsedriven.com/ces2009 . Check it out as you’ll get lots ...

Demigod is designed to be a game that is very easy to learn but has a great deal of strategic depth.  This journal entry begins a series of entries that will outline what is in the user manual (and by the end of it, give away the features that so far have been kept hush hush).   Regarding “The Events” Near the end of the 87 th migration, when the minions of Hel-Gorgath were in rebellion and the balance between light and dark was under threat, t...

I was reading in the forums someone saying something to the effect of "I was playing a game and the other player took all the flags in the first 15 minutes and it seemed like it was hard to come back from that." In the final version of Demigod, the game would be over before 15 minutes if that happened. BETA 1 of Demigod was the engine test for compatibility. BETA 2 of Demigod was the engine test + Internet connectivity. BETA 3 of Demigod, due next Thursday...
