There will be two new civilizations in Galactic Civilizations II (on top of the 8 from Galactic Civilizations: Altarian Prophecy). The first one is called the Iconians.  The Iconians are the ones who actually created the Yor.  The Yor being a race of sentient machines.  The Iconians were once the servants of the dark Precursor race known as the Dreadlords. When the Dreadlords were gone, they considered themselves as the rightful heirs to the galaxy.  To that end, they buil...

We are currently aiming for a March 24th release date for the BETA (that means test version) of Galactic Civilizations.  For those of you who haven't been through a Stardock beta program before, our betas tend to be much earlier on than what is the norm. Most betas, by definition, are "feature complete" with only bugs to fix.  Stardock's beta programs have traditionally encompassed both the alpha phase (early development) phase and beta (late development) phase.  This is so ...

We're about one-week away from the first BETA. It's going to mainly be about figuring out what % of systems currently out there blow up on loading it (don't worry, we don't really mean blow up, it's more of an explosion type scenario <g>).  But it'll give players a chance to check out what we're doing and let us know what works and doesn't work and what direction they'd like to go. Anyone who has an active TotalGaming.net subscription OR has pre-ordered Galactic Civilizations II wi...

Running at 1600x1200 In the prefs.ini in the data directory you can set the resolution you want the game to run at (eventually there will be a neat little gadget program that lets you set your in-game resolution).  Right now we're just at the start of massaging the game UI for different resolutions but even at this early stage you can see the advantages at running at high resolutions.

Gamespy's Allen Rausch has a hands on preview of Galactic Civilizations II up.  Allen reviewed Galactic Civilizations I for Gamespy, so he is quite familiar with the game (it received a 4 out of 5 star review then).  His conclusion: "If the Stardock team were just to drop those parts of the first game into the improved elements we've seen in this beta, the sequel would already be much better than the original. Make any improvements at all (and Stardock says they're working hard on them...

For those of you in the beta, you're going to be pleasantly surprised (we hope) with beta 2 which is due out right after we get back from E3.  It has an entirely new user interface with a lot more usability integrated in.  We also are starting to flesh out the AI so that it'll be a more playable game. Most of the main features of the game won't show up until the end of summer (star bases, debris, fleet battles, enhanced graphics, etc.) but beta 2 should hopefully show the direc...

Stardock was showing off two games at this year's E3.  Galactic Civilizations II, of course, and a new game called Society.  Society won't go into beta until after Galactic Civilizations II ships.  But you can check out some details on it: Gamespy First Look Gamespot impressions IGN Preview
