It’s not fair. My wife won’t let me have chickens. Chris Taylor’s wife lets him have chickens so I’m stuck with just my bees and garden. Chris told me awhile back that they’re thinking about getting bees out at their farm.

I wonder if my wife will let me get an Emu.

A friend of mine actually recently bought a house on a decent sized chunk of land that was once a farmhouse.  Anyway, he decided to build a few coops and get some chickens.  He's said that he just enjoys watching the putz around when they are out, etc.  Obviously, a bit of work to clean up after though - not sure if shoveling chicken crap and trying to keep a coop in decent shape is your idea of fun.  He does get a very decent amount of eggs out of them, though.  Then, he also has some meat chickens (I guess you buy the type you want - for eating or for eggs).  These guys are a little more depressing as you feed them and feed them and they gorge themselves until they can hardly walk.

So, Mrs. Frogboy finally put her foot down!

Seriously, the last thing you need is to be frying up "Sally" that your daughter has taken a liking to.

What would anyone have against chickens.....they are delicious. Actually, they do not require massive amounts of care. Just a few basic things and they are good to go. They are one of the oldest sources of food and in ancient China, probably to this day, they roamed free by the thousands and were gathered up quite easily. The Chinese were eating chickens as long ago as 23 thousand years as chicken bones were found in what was called "chicken bone hill", which was a mountain about 8 miles outside of Beping. Inside this mountain, were found burial grounds with layer upon layer of dead, buried with live chickens,(so the dead would have food). Even back that long ago, these people were buried in fancy robes and wore jewelry......even that long ago they had attire that was quite stylish. Well, as usual, I have gone far afield here.

As to your chickens, go for it, they are rather pleasant creatures. They do not bark, or growl, or bite. They are just plain nice to have around, and you do not need a large space for them, wherever they are, they like it.

One of my best friends had an emu farm for a couple of years.

Had.

One of the biggest mistakes he ever made.

You'll see a picture of an emu in the dictionary under Dumb, Vile and Vicious.
