I walked the show floor quite a bit on day 2 and everywhere you looked it was HD-DVD vs. Blu Ray. Microsoft meanwhile seems to have a real winner with their MCE (Media Center Edition) that they're preparing for Windows Vista. For me, the big thing is being able to record HD content from various sources and save it to a hard drive or stream to other places in the house. The UI is very slick and if you have an XBOX 360 then all the better. My travels did lead to some sight seeing after the ...

Stardock Magazine is nearing its 10th year anniversary. In the old days, Stardock Magazine was done as a regular magazine. The ones from 1996 were done with Page Maker 5 (Which I can't convert with Adobe InDesign). So here's one from early 1996 as a PDF. Some of the graphics and fonts are wrong (i.e. the layout errors and such weren't in the actual paper version) but it gives you an idea of what kinds of things Stardock was up to way back then.
There's been some bumps lately in terms of Stardock being able to get "stuff out there" to users. Why is that? This article talks about the back end of what's been going on.
Holy cow what a year it has been at Stardock. 10 years ago, Stardock was an OS/2 developer. If you were with us from the OS/2 days, comment below. We'd love to hear what some of your favorite OS/2 experiences were. If 10 years ago someone had told us that we'd be helping Microsoft on Windows Vista projects and have top-rated turn based strategy game of the year we would have never believed it. So what were some of the highlights of last year? February: Galactic Civiliza...
I don't know about you but I hate having to wait until the end of the year to read those "best of" lists. This is doubly true because those lists almost always favor things released near the end of the year. Well, we're half-way through 2007 already and so here's our list of the top 5 coolest things we've seen so far this year! #1 Erector Spykee Robot . A brilliant idea made real. This is a remote control robot that has a microphone and camera on it tha...

Impulse is the greatest thing since sliced bread...yada yada yada.
But how good is it really? Ultimately, only you will be able to decide. What I'm going to do here is give my personal opinion on how Impulse stands on the eve of its launch.
For years, PC makers have competed with one another largely on price. PCs, it was said, were nothing more than a commodity. But over the past couple of years, consumers have begun to take the overall experience a lot more seriously. Last year's successful launch of the Apple iPhone made clear to cell phone makers that yes, the experience a "commodity" provides for the customer matters. PC makers have begun to take note and leading the way is Dell who began pre-loading th...
