And new building info..
Published on May 31, 2005 By Frogboy In GalCiv II News

We have some good news..and some bad news.  The good news is that Galactic Civilizations II beta 2 will have more features than originally discussed.  The bad news is that it won't be available until the second week of June.  The reason for this is that Stardock is in the process of moving to a brand-new building.  Originally, this move was to take place in April as to not affect our release schedule.  But the building construction has taken longer than expected and now is going to occur right smack-dab in the middle of when we were planning on making beta 2 available.

Since the point of the beta is to get feedback and interact with the user base, we don't want to put out a beta and not be fully available to receive feedback.  Moreover, there is likely going to be some down-time as we migrate network equipment and such.  So the new beta 2 date is second week of June.  But it will be a bit further along too so there is a silver lining.

We will also be ending the open beta until Fall shortly after Beta 2's release.  So if you want to get Beta 2, now is the time to pre-order the game.

This is an unusual departure from Stardock's normal procedures. Did something we did precipitate this?

Glad to hear about the new building. I remember what your quarters looked like in 2002 and it seemed rather closed in. The exteriour snap shot shows a nice looking building.

Good luck on the move!

Lucky Jack, that's what they said they'd do with Beta 1. They closed it off to pre-orders after a certain time. Those pre-orders after date X would have to wait until Beta 2 started. IIRC, they told us this was to limit the number of "newbie" questions that would arise from the testers.

Didn't they let any Total Game Network subscriber enter Beta 1 at any time? I think that was one of the benefits of being a TGN subscriber.

Well, you can't purchase the beta: you purchase a Totalgaming.net account or preorder Galciv II. in both case, you will have access to all betas of Galciv II

anyone who has pre-ordered the game will have access to beta 2.  We will be stopping NEW people from getting beta 2 at the end of the month.

The current beta 2 date is June 14th.

Well I guess the beta will be released by Tuesday evening ,since the 14th of June is the end of the second week of June.
It was promised during the second week of June. I will be anxiously racing home Monday and Tuesday anticipating the download and playing the exciting beta release.

Don't hold your breath...These guys rarley ever deliver when they say they will.

I'm sure GalCiv2 will be a great game...but stardocks abiltiy to meet the dates they set...not so good.

When it happens, it's good. Yeah, a monday release would have been a nice birthday present (I don't actually expect them to roll out a beta on sunday), and today would be nice since I expect Horizons to be down all day ("largest update ever"? I hope that's not counting the server merge, that took several days), but I haven't got the hang of combat in Robin Hood, so I've got stuff to keep me entertained.

Lol, here we are on the 14th, and not a peep from stardock. Suprise Suprise.

Star Dock ususally delivers when they say they will, jreynol2. This beta, however, is waiting on them getting physically moved. Businesses rarely move on time in my experience. So if Beta2 takes a while, oh well. You could always write your own game and share it with us, if you can do better.
