When, on the other hand is the question..

While no one knows for sure when, how, and if Microsoft's next generation file system technology will manifest itself, Microsoft officials do plan to bring WinFS in some form to Windows XP.

Just as Microsoft is currently doing with it's next-gen display technology, Avalon, WinFS apparently will be able to be used by Windows XP users as well.

I'm still not sure about it... By 2007, when FS is most likely to be released XP will be almost 6 years old. That's quite a lot...

Yes, even though the three pillars of Longhorn (WinFS, Avalon and Indigo) will be ported back to XP, I still think there will be many other reasons to upgrade to XP.

It may not be backported after all. Article at Slashdot: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/10/007222&tid=201&tid=218

WinFS seems an useful one thing indeed. I've got interested in it and found some really useful info on current structure. If you wish, you can also give it a glance
