Greetings!

We are coming to the finish line for GalCiv IV: Supernova!

Our once reasonable scope has, of course, exploded over the Summer as we got our hands into making this the best space 4X game we've ever made!

The next major BETA update, 1.90 will be focusing on making the game more appealing to a much wider group of people.

This feature is expected to expand significantly in the coming weeks. We're excited about its potential and are hopeful to integrate capabilities allowing modders to add their own entries.

We are gearing up to unveil the GalCiv Workshop. It will start by supporting uploads of civs and ships.

Design your ship, hit a button, and upload. The same goes for your custom civilizations. Moreover, in various places, you'll have the option to pick from a range of ships. In beta 1.9, we're interested in your feedback on where additional integration points could be located.

Stay tuned for updates on code modding!

Will modders be able to create non YOR synthetic citizens with variant characteristics ? Will modders have the capacity to create non-planetary based species ? Will modders have the power to determine the outcome of a terraforming project ? Will modders have the ability to invent hypergates/hyperlanes ?

Nice, seems like the game is shaping up to be something truly special. I played a whole game during an earlier beta and enjoyed, will play again once the final game is released, but looking really good.

Hi,

I have been playing GalCiv games since last centaury, and played thousands of hours over the years. I have over 300 hours logged at epic for this game over the last few months alone (summer break).

I keep hoping for a turn based combat option similar to Masters of Orion 2 (MOO2), where you can fight the ships you build and modify tactics as needed for special use builds, etc.

I found a review on Steam that asked about turn based player controlled combat and below is the response (2nd paragraph):

HI there. I wanted to wait until we had an update that addressed some of the things yuo reported. We updated to 1.66 today and a lot of what you mentioned are now addressed.

Now, with regards to the turn-based battles, so with that, I actually wrote the AI for the Fallen Enchantress and Sorcerer King tactical battles and the thing is, players always end up feeling like they have to play out each battle to optimize the outcomes which makes it very difficult to enjoy when you're talking hundreds of fleets. That's why we don't have them.

Now, that said, I was thinking that what we should add in the future is a sort of Doctrine system (like a war doctrine) that players could do at a more global way.

Anyway, please check out 1.66. I think you'll find a lot of progress already. There's still more to do but it's a lot more stable and looks a lot better and the AI is (if I may so so) quite a bit better too.

Cheers.

If you make player controlled combat optional and have an auto-resolve function that you can turn on and off before/during battle, like MOO2 (which I still play 30 years later), you get around needing to fight every battle and can focus on fighting the battles you want and auto-resolving the rest.

@Frogboy If the goal is to make the game appealing to a bigger audience, why not include player controlled turn based combat options? Or is the the Aug 1 response above the final word, and Gal Civ will NEVER have it?

one way around this would be to only make turn base combat available with fleets led by a commander.

Turn based combat option.

4x Game -Interstellar Space: Genesis

I found it yesterday on GOG and played a few hours. They have the moo2 concept for combat. Game came out in 2019 and a dlc last year. I fought every battle since it was new to me, but I could have auto resolved before the battle started, or during a battle. There seems to be a current market for this combat style.

Console Based Gal Civ version?

Any plans to put out a version of Gal Civ for the XBOX/PS? That would open up a massive market world wide and allow Gal Civ to reach people that don't play 'PC games'.

ISP is a clone of Moo2 good game, love the simple combat. Then I am a fan of the Kiss Club of game design.

I do not believe that Gal Civ could make a TBC that would work as it system has way to many Bells and Whistles even think I saw they added the Kitchen Sink.
