Hi gang!
Any thoughts on the October issue of Stardock Magazine that will be going out around 10/10/2016 go ahead and post here.
I haven't been around here for a good while, but had to visit the forums to say that this was terrific. For the first time in a long while, I read every word of a Stardock Magazine...and I'm looking forward to Part 2. It is so nice to hear directly from Brad, speaking to us as if we're as much old friends and acquaintances as customers.
My wife still runs some old MyColors themes (Winter Wonderland and a dragon one particularly) on our Windows 7 computer at home. It's old and unsupported and wonky, and sometimes makes a window or menu bar or button look or act funny, but it's worth it to her. And neither of us could live without Fences.
Other than that, we haven't done a whole lot with Object Desktop type things--the time and mental energy and enthusiasm needed to play around with new tech seems harder to come by with each passing year, even though we're not that old yet!--but we've been ever so glad for the bits and bobs that we have gotten to know and love. If things are updated and consolidated for Windows 10, that could make the transition a lot less unpleasant for us, when we finally have to replace our current machines and thus are compelled to make the move.
The engine discussion was interesting...and made me want to go fire up Game Dev Tycoon again.
Anyhow, thanks again for the solid newsletter, and keep up the good work.
Wow! Thank you so much! We are very excited to get to part 2. There's a big chunk on Object Desktop in the next one along with Escalation, some hardware and even a bit on Tesla.
Well, I am a little old for games now, but the other areas read pretty good Brad. Love to hear the Tesla stuff, I am all for gas powered vehicles disappearing from the Earth!
Desktop x has been laid off a looong time ago.
Desktop works wonderfully on Windows 10, sans UAC. That is, the unreleased beta does. I still use DX on 10 and it works just fine. Just saying.
I'd love to see it back in action.
Yes to Newsletter (I just got it today ~ shrug). And... yes to a DesktopX for Windows 10.
Totally agree on the format, it looks more like a personal email rather than yet another promo. Well done!
Really enjoyed the email. I echo the stuff that everybody else said, it reads like it was written by a real person, and it has interesting stuff I wouldn't know about otherwise. The Nitrous Engine stuff sounds very cool, for example. It may be a bit geeky, but I love that stuff. I'm a geek. And there is definitely something to be said for standing out from the crowd and giving people what a slick marketing campaign could never give them. What I like about Stardock is that independent ethos. More power to you.
I echo this.
When is Part 2 of the newsletter coming out Brad?

Thanks
You can't. It is no longer available. Sunsetted.
Sunsetted?
Anyway there is a lot I would like to say about what you've said Mr Wardell, mostly good things because acutally stardock is one of the company who listen most of the time to the community. I don't know how big your company have grown since the beginning but support staff could testify that I'm here for a long time now even if I don't participate a lot in the community life by only interacting when I have a problem. But still I follow the progress of the soft for a long time now.
Your biggest problem I think as a company beside all the deadends that you developped (for more than one reason, like the market wasn't ready), is the support of your softs. There are after all a subsequently portion of your customers base who have complained over the years about your soft which are not compatible enough or which are buggy for a diversity of reasons.
I understand that tests labs are costly and you can't imagine all the use case scenarios possible. So I would like to porpose something.... Actually 2 things.
The first one is not the most important and not the most possible, it s partnership with microsoft. You have various problems with your products of the objectdesktop suite for years now and sometimes you can adress some of those problems but often it's just not possible. I don't know why, maybe it's because your support staff doesn't believe the customers when they say "it doesn't work with that scenario" etc but maybe it's time to really listen to your customer base and maybe just assume that the microsoft code is buggy and so a partnership would be profitable for the 2 companies, at least in terms of R&D.
The second one which is the msot practical and the most important I think, it's to adapt your customer service. Maybe in place of not believe your customer base when there is a problem or just don't find the problem because your test labs didn't report any problems, you could do some remote support. You don't need to do that for every customer. But if there is a case which is difficult to solve and that didn't link with the test labs results maybe a good thing could be a remote session through Logmein for example like microsoft does .... I know for my part that it would solve a lot of problems and would be profitable to your company in R&D.
That's my 2 cents for the moment
Sunsetted, retired, no longer available or supported. Abandoned like an unwanted puppy.
that's a beautiful image indeed
