Bottom line: DirectX 12 looks to double perf over DirectX 11 on the same hardware.  The game changing effect of this cannot be understated.

Holy cow! That is freakin' awesome to hear!!

It sounds like Mantle got them spooked a bit. Now we just need OpenGL to do something similar so we have a fast multithreaded graphics library that works across all platforms. (Mantle only works on GCN, DX12 only works on Microsoft platforms. These overlap, but miss a fair amount of the market.)

That is great news.

MS does do many things well.

on Apr 03, 2014

Doesn't Mantle already do this?

Nice to see that AMD was able to get MS to do something they probably should have already been doing.

I have no idea what I just read. Lol.

Translation from Geek Speak.  Faster graphics mean more pretty shiny things on your screen.  This is a good thing!

Sooo galciv will eventually use it? I thought it was 10 or 11?

Even from MS DX12 isn't really fleshed out yet. They're expecting games that use it to come out in 2015

I also am wary that MS will basically kneecap it by making it Windows8.1 only.

I just spent hundreds on a laptop with windows 8 and badly miss the desktop. So now I may already be out of date? Damn.

I am eager to see massive scale RTS games like Total War running with this new speed boost. End of 2015 is a long time though.

Here I thought that Mantle was the API to increase performance a lot and what happens??   Friggin DirectX 12 comes around and says it will do that!   It might be locked to Windows 8+.

Not sure what SteamOS will have support for....

I'ts interesting times!

It's good you posted this. Has more weight when a developer says things.

Well, to be fair, Mantle is for AMD GPU's with the GCN Architecture, so it has a limited audience currently.  Hopefully the DX12 implementation will work on a wide array of GPU's, from multiple vendors.
