If you have Object Desktop (www.objectdesktop.com) you can download and try out the first alpha build of DesktopX 2.

DesktopX is a program that lets you design your own Windows desktop. One of the highlights of DesktopX 2 is its ability to automatically inherit your existing desktop (the icons on it) and add all kinds of visual effects to them (shadows under icons, desktop icons that are any size, icons that smoothly animate to a bigger size when you put your mouse over them, sound effects, etc.).

DesktopX 2 also has a much cleaner user interface to make it easier for people to design their own desktops.

would that be 1.92? Im not seeing a 2.0+

Same here! Methinks 1.92 IS the alpha, as it includes IconX tech in it.

on the 'iconx' technogolgy its showing icons that are usually hidden on my desktop, and I cant delete/hide em. Any ideas?

Damn, should have read a little more carefully... I Have to own object desktop in order to try the new alpha. Shouldn't have got my hopes up, because until DX2 rolls out I'll have to put up with DX1.x's frustrating limitations. Maybe by the time I get back from vacation in February a trial version *might* be available... Arfgh, well there's my 2 cents about it.

the only way I can seem to have the right click programs menu, is with desktop icons turned off, but then that seems to prohibit the use of the iconx stuff...

also, is it going to be possible to make objects using icons? I cant seem to find any way other than dropping an icon on the regular bg, which is unfortunate since id like to make a theme with icons i dont usually have on my non desktopx bg, if that makes sense. anyway around this?

I like that I can get the system tray and taskbar to be vertical now.

If you have a registered copy of DesktopX, you can contact me privately and we can arrange something.

Nakor:

I'm a 3yr subscriber to ODN and only see 1.92 in CM. Is that Alpha 1, or is Alpha 1 what can be "arranged"?
