Brad Wardell's site for talking about the customization of Windows.
All objects can run external programs or internal shell
commands. The number of additional forms (desktops) is not limited. You can add HTML-pages and FLASH movies to the desktop and add sounds to different events. Talisman supports 32bit WindowsXP icons of any sizes from 16x16 to 128x128 pixels .
The program displays 32bit icons in all Windows versions from Windows 98Frogboy to Windows NT4/2000/XP.

It is possible to create different "zoomer" objects from such icons and to place the icons of different sizes on desktop.
Talisman has the own skinable Taskbar, System Tray, Digital and Analogue Clocks, Volume Control and different plugins.

What's new in version 2.5:

- Support of 32bit Windows XP icons with 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 72, 96, 128 sizes.

- New List object with 17 presets (including XP icons and zoomers presets).

- Custom icons in the Talisman menu.

- New "Mediaplayer" object and commands allow to control some popular audioplayers: Winamp 1/2/3, Windows Media Player 7/8/9, Apollo, QCD Player, CoolPlayer, Sonique.

- New "Sendkeys" command allows to emulate pressing of hotkeys in any launched program.

- New hotkeys for shell mode of Talisman.

- New "Caching" and "Effect" options for forms allow to use different effects of opening/closing forms.

- Bug fixes and other changes.

I know next to nothing about setting up these alternate shells, other getting some LiteStep themes, that didn't need any config changes done, working.

What I want to do is (in XP, BTW) is replace my shell with something like Litestep/HoverDesk/Aston or whatever. I want to run that shell with either no theme at all or, at most, a right-click popup menu (iTunes brushed metal, preferably, if I MUST have one), and then do everyhthing else shell related with DesktopX, ObjectDock, and ObjectBar. (Oh...and of course, WIndowBlinds) If I'm not using Explorer as anything more than to start ODN, I see no sense in using all that memory or processor time.

Has anyone here suceesfully done this, what shell did you use and how how was it set up?

If it is too involved to explain here, drop me a note at note at floyd_r_turbo @ h o t m a i l . c o m.

Many thanks!

Floyd R. Turbo, your questions might have a bigger audience if you put it on the message board. Maybe someone thier can get crackin' on that one or may have actually done what you are questioning.

I think, actually with ObjectBar you can get that right click on the desktop.

Oh and Frogboy, cool news report.

I think Talisman is awesome and had been using it for a while, but when 2.5 beta 4 came out it was really buggy so i switched to ObjectBar for now. i'm gonna hafta give 2.5 another try.
