Brad Wardell's site for talking about the customization of Windows.
The first WindowBlinds skins began being submitted to the library at the beginning of 1999. My first few skins were ports (with permission) of Kaleidoscope skins on the Mac (www.kaleidoscope.net).

It took 2 years for WindowBlinds to get up to that first 1,000 skins. And about a year and a half to get to the second thousand.

That comes out to be about 1.5 skins per day with the amount being somewhat higher in 2002 than in 2001 which goes to show that skinning is becoming much more mainstream.

For all those skinners out there who have spent their precious spare time creating skins/visual styles and shared them with the world, thank you. I've downloaded most of those 2000 skins and enjoyed pretty much all of them.

I remember back in the begining, I'd come to the Stardock WB skin library and look to see when the new Treetog, Mercury or Crumbut skin was released.
I have to admit at not feeling the same level of excitment these days around new skins. Most of that stems from the originality factor not being as high as it was 3 years ago, but in reflection, the graphics techniques and quality of the skins has shot up by about 700%.

Oh, and those 1.5 skins per day, the .5 is my daily contribution....

a little ironic that skin #2000 tries to mimic Windows Classic

Indeed, the overall originality levels are quite low these days, but then again, I shouldn't speak since I don't contribute my creations, so yeah... If only someone got around to updating some of the original classics

Remember those first skins like the series of Elegant skins? I loved those. I would really like to see somebody update those for use on XP. They were clean and neat.....anybody?????
