Brad Wardell's site for talking about the customization of Windows.
The fastest, best way to get skins, themes, icons, and wallpapers is not by surfing some slow website to do it (ahem) but by directly connecting to the underlying database of a skin site.

That's what the WinCustomize skin browser does. It lets you search on skins at lightning speeds, browse through hundreds of wallpapers, skins, and themes very quickly and can APPLY skins and themes directly and even download the software you need if you're missing it.

The 1.0 release candidate is now available for WinCustomize subscribers. If you already are a subscriber, go to https://www.stardock.com/support and enter in your email address.

If you want to get the browser, become a WinCustomize subscriber: https://www.wincustomize.com/store.asp

It shows 0.99c here in the About. Is that correct?

Also, I see Help is still not enabled, odd for a release candidate.

The email link is not responding. Sent one in 2.5 hrs. ago, sent another in 2.25 hours ago, sent another in 2 hours ago, still no reply to my email.

However, if it is just a server problem, I will continue to be patient.

Thank-you

It shows .99b on my system, as have the past 3 or 4 enh version updates I've grabbed (that's after deleting the orginal). Also, preview images are not being retrieved . .*again*! AFAIK, this is BS. I and others have reported conflicting version numbers on a few prior releases, and it's still happening. How can that be? Shouldn't someone be addressing it by now? The same with the image preview. This has been broken on and off for months. Unfortunately, I have yet to see any real advantage of using it anyway, even when it does work. If you use the discussion/message board option, it pulls up the web page in a small window. I can do that in a browser. It's certainly doesn't seem any faster than the web site to me either.

I haven't downloaded the newest version, but I've had to problems with the previous versions. The previews work. I must be the luckiest person around.

If this is lightning speed, I don't want to know what WinCustomize considers to be slow.

I´m currently downloading the new version of skin browser so I can´t comment or apply the bugs other users are telling. But one of the bugs I have with the 0.xx version was/is : Every time I have the windows that popup so you can see the skins in large format, then I change skins on the skinbrowser, the skinbrowser starts to scroll down to the buttom and it wont stop even if I try to click on the the first skins of the skinbrowser etc. etc.
I can only look through the skins if I close the large-skin-format-popup-window everytime time, that really sux !
I´m using Logitech software to my mouse, behaps it´s a conflict between skinbrowser and the logitech software?

But nuff said ! Skinbrowser is really cool when the bugs iz fixed

Sweet. I haven't had any troubles with the skinbrowser, but I'm glad that they've made it even better.

If you have any problems, try this...
Close SB, uninstall it, *delete all the relevant temp files in the temp directory*, make sure that all the .ini files have indeed been deleted during the uninstall, then reinstall. This method was the only method of several tried which gave me the correct version number and also showed preview images.
Good job on this update Brian. Everything seems to be working correctly.

You jump through all these hoops to get it working, and then you say great job on the update. Now there's a customer every company should have.

Good customers are hard to find. Or is it good companies? Maybe its.... well what ever it is, it is in version 0.9whatever and usually that means it is still, while working, the beginning of the program stage. It might be released and ready for use, but bugs and other stuff can still affect the thousands of part and pieces of a computer and its programs.

Her is a chart of verions goodness

0.0 ~ 0.99 - sux (will work for some and not for others or if it does work most of the time, it is because it is a simple program)

1.0 - sux (usually but not always)

2.0 - ahhh, ok, better. (but still can suk)

3.0 - looks good (works on more computer designs, works well with other programs, possible total crash of your system 0.942 percent

4.0 ~ 6.0 - good (possible total crash of your system 0.094 percent)

7.0 and up - If it makes it this far usually excellent. It is still possible for something to go wrong but now it might have something to do with there being something wrong with another program (bad interaction) or a missing file that subpossed to be included with the computer OS

-----
The question is why some companies call something 4.0 when it works like 1.2???? And vise-versa.

The other question is hoops nessicary for a working program?
