Object Desktop 2009, which is due out on November 19, will be including some pretty cool stuff.  For Vista users, they finally get BootSkin.  For XP users, they get animated wallpaper with DeskScapes.

Only the best version of windows to date!

Boy howdy, do I disagree.  I wouldn't trade my 64-bit Vista for XP on this box for an amount of money with less than three digits.

(3 or more, who are you kidding?  Of course I'd use XP if you were paying me to.  )

I have to use a VPN on my machine and they're not interested in supporting VISTA so Dreams in XP is well, a dream come true for me

I use XP Pro at home and Vista Ultimate on my laptop, so I'm gonna make out like a bandit on this one! I'm so glad this if finally happening. Now my XP can be as cool as my Vista, and my Vista can be even cooler! Yea, WinCustomize!

OK, so it's 9:00 EST on the 19th already. I want my DeskScapes XP or I'll hold my breath until I turn blue. It's OK I'm not spoiled though.

No support for AGP cards until December (maybe). Fanbloodytastic

What?!!!  When did this revelation come about?  If this is the case then I might as well give up for a couple of years until I can build an updated system.

on Nov 19, 2008

Actually it is a case of it is a bad idea to use it on ATI AGP cards until December.  Nvidia AGP systems should work ok, though the cpu may be a little higher than a PCIE system (PCIE is simply a better bus design than AGP)

Once the new ATI drivers are released, AGP 8x machines should be ok with ATI cards.  Based on testing AGP 4x is simply not up to the job which I guess is why AGP 8x and PCIE x16 were invented.

There may be a few PCIE systems from ATI which experience unusually high cpu usage but again the December drivers should resolve this as well.  This high cpu usage will show up in particular with ObjectDock running, though some tooltips may also cause slowness.

If you do experience high cpu usage before then with ATI systems then ensure you have not forced antialiasing in the driver settings.  Once the December drivers are out all should be fine with this as well.

considering that over 70% of XP systems use AGP video cards this is quite a glaring oversight

Considering that its a card/driver issues and that MS said that Dreams were vista only I'd say it's quite an accomplishment.
