Reply #180:
I had the same problem as Jimbo9294. Every time I tried to launch it I'd get the same error. Even tried uninstall/re-download/re-install to no avail.

I'd like to know the trick, too.

Reply #182:
I uninstalled Impulse to check something out, and now I can't reinstall......
I get 3 options when I run Impluse_setup.exe.

Modify Available Options
Repair Application
Uninstall

There's nothing to modify, repair, or uninstall...... it's already gone.
No option to Install.

Try Unistalling from the Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel in Windows. Then delete the executable and re-download.

There's nothing to uninstall, I've already done that. Re-downloaded twice, but no joy. All I get is maintenance operations, no option to install.
If I choose Uninstall from the maintenance oprations, I get this........

"The Setup Wizard for Impulse has failed: "Fatal error during installation". Please check your settings and try again."

I've downloaded apps. that were 20 mb that installed faster than this does and it's only 1.77 mb.
The status shows installing at 1% every 2 seconds. It takes almost 4 min. to install.
Has to be a currupted file, I'm guessing.

Oh, and still can't get past the log-in screen (see my above comment) after uninstall, clean, redownload and reinstall.

I love how they never tell what settings to check.

On Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 SP2 - Impulse will not install Windowblinds 6. It claims it is not compatible with this version of Windows.
Stardock Central will install it just fine.
Also, on the Windowblinds website it states that it IS compatible with Windows Server 2003.

the only thing I can think of was a corrupted download.
I unistalled and deleted the program competely and re-downloaded it (started fresh )

That's what worked for me.

I am thinking, if you are recieving this message, Impulse is not gone.
Delete that Impluse_setup.exe file and download another one.

As I have already stated, I had downloaded the file a total of three times to no avail.....
But you are correct. Even though Impulse did not show in Add/Remove Programs, or 2 other uninstaller programs I use. Even though the Impulse folder in Program Files\Stardock was empty, and deleted. Even though I had deleted all references to Impulse from the registry, and anywhere else I could find it, Impulse was not gone.

I downloaded Revo Uninstaller, and there it was in the list of installed apps. Revo searched the registry, and hard drive for all leftover information, and found plenty. Info that I would have never found myself, because most of it was just a bunch of numbers. None of it appeared to have anything to do with Stardock.
After Revo finished cleaning up the mess, I was able to reinstall Impulse.

Revo Uninstaller gets a big THUMBS UP from me!

Ouch!

While trying to start Impulse this morning:

No logs that I could find, nothing in Event viewer.

At least it wasn't a "FATAL" error..... I hate those.

Impulse is running fine for me except that installed versions and available update versions don't match between SDC and Impulse. In Impulse, WB keeps showing an available update that is older than the installed version. In SDC IP shows 3.20a[RC].033 available when 3.20.137 is installed, yet in Impulse IP shows 3.20.137 installed and 3.99[b].045 available. ObjectDockPlus is likewise messed up. In SDC it shows DriveScan,Enhanced File Dialog,Object Edit,Object Zip,SpringFolders and TreeView as available new downloads, yet none of these show up in Impulse. I'm confused.

Kosati - you might need to use MS's "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" to remove the entry from the Add/Remove programs list and/or remove its traces so that it can be reinstalled. Search MS's site for the download for that utility.

Z71,  I'm wondering if you may be running into a firewall issue or something similar.  Are you running any firewalls?  And if so have you tried temparily disabling them to see if that helps?

Zubaz,  You should have some error logs in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\Temporary  could you please send those to me.

Just Windows on Vista. Turned it off, no luck.
In all the years I've owned a computer, not once have I ever had to turn off or disable the firewall, to install anything.
Seems a little fishy, if I have to start now, just to use this. Hmmm...
