Maintainence release but 64-bit XP support added
Published on November 7, 2007 By Frogboy In WinCustomize News

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 6.01.  WindowBlinds is a program that allows users to completely change their Windows XP or Windows Vista visual experience. It does this by applying system-wide skins called visual styles.

Visual styles can change nearly every element of the Windows GUI from the Start menu, task bar, title bar, push buttons, scrollbars, and nearly everything other part of either Windows XP or Windows Vista.

WindowBlinds works by extending the native drawing routines of the operating system. It does not replace system files or modify data on the user's PC. It has been used by Microsoft, ATI, nVidia, Alienware, and countless other companies to create alternative visual styles to Windows.

WindowBlinds 6.01 is largely a maintainence release fixing reported bugs, tweaking performance, as well as adding support for 64-bit Windows XP (registered version only).

WindowBlinds is a free download and can be registered for $19.95. The registered version adds additional features such as colorization, font control, blur support, and more.  Users can also get the registered version as part of Object Desktop, Stardock's complete suite of desktop enhancement utilities.

I'm hoping WB 6.02 will finally skin my monitor and mouse. Any chance of that happening? I guess until that happens, I'll have to live with the current build.

Seriously, Neil has done a superb job with WB 6. I couldn't be happier. Thanks for all the hard work Neil and anyone who may be involved.

This new update totally fried WB for Vista x64. I am completely unimpressed. At first I was glad that the system tray was fixed, a few other pieces had problems but I could deal with them. But with this update I have had far too much hassle, I had to yet again uninstall wb and reinstall wb to get it to work right. Once I finally went to apply a skin (Quest) I now see that my system tray icons are new 32x32 pixels, the address bar is fubar too, you know what... heres a pic so you guys can see what I mean:

(what isnt shown is the Save As window, the favorites pane in that window also has 32x32 icons)

My question is... WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!

EDIT: I have a feeling you guys put the wrong version out there, the newest Beta build was 57, when i reinstalled WB its now showing build 49.

I don't think you can go by the build number. I HAVE NOT updated to 6.01 and I show build 40 x86 as well. A couple of my dates don't match yours Philly so I think I'll wait a day or so and monitor forum traffic before I update.

Uninstall and then delete the folder for window blinds from the program files. Then go to temp folder as this: Start, then run, type %temp% and say ok. Once there delete everything that will delete (ctrl + a) and delete. What does not delete forget it. Next go to C:/windows/prefetch and do the same delete all... Restart the computer and reinstall wb. That should do it to get the correct version setup clean with no more past records. Hopefully... You should backup any and all your present skins to a folder other than where they may be at now.

Im guessing thats XP? Two different OS's that as said above could have different builds.

Regardless I am pretty angry with this, WB is rendered useless to me at this point. I cant stand the icon size issues that suddenly reappeared as they where in older builds.

EDIT: An update appeared and now WB is showing build 57 version 6.01. But Per Pixel is not working.

Just curious Lantec, what is showing up in SDC as the current available version? I'm showing installed 6.01.012 with 6.01.013 just available.

Astryanax0 ...

I passed on your issue to Stardock....seems there may have been a missed build still online that should have been replaced.

I believe it has been sorted...

Thats what I had figured was the issue, it seems to be behaving now. Thanks.

Ive noticed something though, the please wait image while applying a skin is gone.
