No last minute major changes to Windows Vista interface
Published on January 9, 2006 By Frogboy In WinCustomize News

Back in 2001 Microsoft's early betas of Windows XP contained a user interface dubbed "Watercolor". But only months before the operating system shipped Microsoft completely replaced it with an entirely different look and feel called "Luna" which became known as "Windows XP Style".

That move has created speculation that current Windows Vista look and feel, called Aero glass, would be replaced by a different look and feel later in the beta process.

However, this week's PowerUser.TV podcast has an interview with Microsoft developers who have confirmed that there will be no major change to the look and feel of Windows Vista from what is being shown in build 5270. In other words, Aero-Glass is it.

My buddies still stick with Luna Blue...they are always amazed that I have something different! Mum uses olive because she doesn't know that you can have different - I think I might just stick a different msstyle on for her - she'd like that and she'd get the hang of how to change it too since it's all within the standard properties dialogue. And Dad, well, he uses classic! Do you know what settings you can change for the UI?

I will not have to worry about the glass look as I am not gonna shell out bucks to upgrade. XP works fine for me and so does Linux.

I'm sure Luna...and now this 'Vista Glass' are just the GUI version of the camel....designed by a committee...and it shows.

Yer average thoroughbred will be an individual's home-grown creation....using WB....just as it is now....with XP...

It's what skinning is all about.....

Poor Microsoft. They're announcing their final look for an OS that hasn't even been released yet, and most of us are already sick of it!

While I like XP just fine, I, for one, can't wait to try out the new stuff. I'll install Vista at least as dual boot, if not main OS, as soon as I am allowed. I always feel I arrived at the XP-Customization party just a few minutes too late. Vista is an opportunity, I feel, for me to get involved from the start of something.

And to anyone else out there who wanted to get a head start also, let me warn you. The One-Gigabyte download of the Windows SDK that MS claims works with XP (and with a few other DLs would have theoretically let me get started skinning Vista, but on XP) does NOT work with XP Home. They don't make that distinction until after you download the 1GB DVD image.

True, but in reality, we all can't keep the same desktop for very long. No matter what Microsoft does, we will get sick of it fast.

I have an uncle that had the latest build, his computer could produce aero, but when I took a look around his pc. He had the personal style "smoke" he changed the glass opacity to 0% & contrast down to 0% as well.

I looked around with the style applied & it was just awsome, I love the look & feel. Really dark, slick, & sexy

I asked him wheater or not I could upload a screenshot but it seems microsoft has his soul in a bottle as well

Agreed. You could add, that MS being a multi-billion dollar company, and this is the best their designers could come up with in regards to a UI.

It just doesn't seem to be a priority for them at this point, and I assume they prefer not to rock the boat too far with regards to the billions of windows users out there. I'd love to take a crack at redesigning the windows interface head to head with Apple. And being Microsoft, they can even afford my rate.

Ain't that the truth. Us humans have short attention spans. personnaly, I burned out the Vista theme months ago

The whole transparent borders is kind of useless - IMHO.

Isn't that why apple got rid of it?

Well, I for one will be installing Vista & still using XP in a partitioned HDD set-up...I really don't care for the phlegmatic negative attitude most seem to be posting concerning V - it's been an incredible progression from even the earliest MS Luna Styles to what we have today in Xp....can't even imagine what V will look like a a few years.
