It's funny how Twitter started out claiming it was a messaging service.  And yet, over the years, it has become as moderated, often with a political bias to its moderation, as any community forum.

I wonder if it might be worth putting in effort on JoeUser.com.  Before there was Facebook or Twitter, we had JoeUser which was intended to be a place where people could easily share their thoughts with friends.

Are you referring the fact checking incident that happened the other day? If so I don't see it as a political bias but rather as an effort to make sure the truth is told. Correct me if I'm wrong as to your motivation. Thanks

It’s selection bias. And I don’t think Twitter is the arbiter of “the truth”.

Facts are facts and that's troubling to some folks. Darn old facts always seem to spoil things.

You are confusing facts with opinions you agree with.  For instance, mail in voting fraud does happen. That is a fact.

This is a ridiculous and petty justification.  The incidence of voter fraud is quite low while disenfranchising voters through gerrymandering is far more common.

Once upon a time we mailed in our tax forms.  We didn't hear any cries to stop doing that just because some mailed tax forms had "errors".

I think the motivations for declaring mailed in ballots can't be trusted is dishonest and a prelude for attempt to nullify votes in an upcoming election.

There's a fear that a large voter turn out will not bode well for the current administration. That I think is the motivation for the current administration to lie about mail in voting being “substantially fraudulent.” It is not and that is a fact.

In reality any method of voting can be suspect. Go to your local....cast a vote...get your name ticked off....go to another outside your area...vote as absentee ...say 'no' to 'have you voted already today'...fraud...illegal....but too late to be corrected.  Compulsory voting at least dilutes the fraudulent activity.  Last few years i've done postal voting just to avoid the running of the gauntlet of all those how-to-vote handouts...and the salmonella in a bun called sausage sizzle....

Not to go on a political rant here, but why is one candidate scared of mail in ballots and the other candidate is not.

Maybe it's how the country has been handled in the last 6 months.

That is your opinion.  And you are entitled to your opinion.

If Twitter wants to be a glorified forum with politically motivated selective enforcement then that's their business.  But if it's just a forum with left-wing moderators then I'll just spend my time here instead.

You could just as easily argue as to why one side is consistently against actions that would reduce the possibility of voter fraud.  Especially when that side tends to be in control of cities where it would be easier to exploit flaws in the system.

I didn't vote for Trump.  But I do design software systems (as you guys know).  I also design games.  So I tend to look at a given system and see how it might be exploited.  Mass mail-in votes is very exploitable.  As far as I'm concerned, that's a fact.   I don't even consider it a political issue.

If Twitter wants to be just another forum where the moderators pick and choose which tweets they're going to enforce rules on (which they do, the rule enforcement is almost always one way) then it's a private business they can do that.  I just don't want to be apart of it.  There's lots of forums that way.

Also, I don't really want to spend my time on this forum reading and participating in political debates.  If I want to listen to people who know little about a given topic but insist on espousing their hyper-partisan views I'll read Facebook.

If someone wants to post half-baked political opinions go to JoeUser.com and it has a political area. There you can express how much you hate "the other side" all you want.

on May 31, 2020

Seems like you are taking things personally Frogboy.  I expressed no hate of "the other side".

The motivation of the messenger (with respect to Twitter here) explains much of the content of the message.

I also wish to add that states considering allowing expanded mail-in voting were doing so as a contingency in the event November brought a large pandemic outbreak.

So, hmm the only possible explanation for those who have opinions different from your own is the above uhh?

Some people want to see politics everywhere they go.  I do not.

You were the one who instantly went to "This is a ridiculous and petty justification." as a response.  Should I use my moderation powers to edit your comment based on my opinions like Twitter is doing?

I don't *care* what your opinion is.   I'm not interested in it.  And Twitter is increasingly a dumpster fire of this kind of crap except now, we have the moderators putting their finger on the scales.

If I want to debate politics, I have no shortage of places to go to that where the people are informed on the topics being discussed.

Twitter's policy is up to Twitter.  Are you only interested in opinions that match your own?

You clearly know nothing about me.
