Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor has received an update bringing it to version 2.03. This also applies to the Ultimate Edition and Endless Universe as well. Updates can be downloaded now via Impulse.

Change log:

  • Minor adjustments to tech tree costs
  • Arceans more aggressive at colonizing
  • Terrans build up military sooner
  • Fleet window crash bug fix
  • Misc other updates and fixes
Most of the tweaks and adjustments aren't documented here because there are just too many (and most too piddly) to list here. A definite must-get though.

Does anyone know if 2.03 fixes many of the AI problems that seem to be specific to TA that are frequently discussed in the TA sub-forum such as:

  • Civ's don't aggressively expand
  • Civ's don't build improvements on some planets
  • Civ's build the non-optimal type of improvement on tiles with bonuses
Also, curious if 2.03 changes the behavior of the mid to late game tech costs skyrocketing which seems to be another major complaint?  I believe this isn't technically a bug because the behavior seems to be programmed in to follow some sort of equalization logic.
I've seen many comments such as "TA broke the AI so badly that I've reverted to playing DL or DA".  So I was hoping to hear some encouraging news about 2.03 but I haven't really seen any posts where anyone has definitely said "yes, 2.03 rocks and fixes all of my complaints and playing TA is fantastic now"
Anyone have some insight on this?

Thanks, Stardock!  Your support and attention to community has made a solid supporter out of me.  I didn't get Demigod (not really into the DOTA thing) and I'm very sorry about the pirate activity on the servers.  Hope you work that out satisfactorily.  That said, you have my interest in Elemental.  If that approaches GalCiv2 in terms of quality gameplay and support, you will most certainly have my money.

i'm on Ultimate Edition 2.02 and I can't find any sign of a 2.03 update on Impulse. Any suggestions?

If you purchased at retail make sure that you've got the game properly registered; [email protected] can help if you do and it still does not appear.

Hello, I'm just new here because I have never had the need to write on the forum.

Anyway, I've just upgraded my game to 2.03 version and can't load anymore previous saves. At least, ship modules are still intact.

Is there any way to fix this? I really hope that this won't happen anymore in the future!

EDIT: I think it is because Orbital Fleet Manager has been permanently deleted and this is causing a game crash when I attempt to load an old savegame. Quite a bad idea, imho. Even if I apreciate that logistics are automatically calculated even for ships orbiting around planets, I would have been much more happy with a new building rather than an empty slot which is causing those crashes.

Also, I have to tell that my game manual has NOT been updated with version 2.03, in fact there is no track of the new starting options to customize galaxy, as the Extreme planets and Events frequency.

Savegames are generally not compatible between game versions, so it's always a good idea to finish up any existing ones before updating.

on Jan 15, 2010

Sorry Kryo, but for me a savegame is a monument to my mightness with that game

Even if I understand that it is better to have a up-to-date game rather than working savegames, I really hope that this event will not repeat in the future. I trust the fact that Stardock will cause savegames to be incompatibile with new versions only if very forced too. Thanks

It was earlier last year when Windows 7 was in beta that I was playing and Twilight had the reocurring problem of randomly sitting there not doing anything when you clicked the Turn button. This issue was occurring previously under XP and seemed to have been introduced in a patch.

Anyways, I didn't know if it was a Windows 7 beta thing or a Stardock code thing. I emailed Stardock on it and the guy said they couldn't tell me anything as it was not approved for Windows 7. I quit playing.

I've got the Windows 7 Pro now. I wonder if it's been fixed in this new release?

Anyone running it under Windows 7 and having this issue or not?

Luckily, I only bought the Ultimate Edition in a store yesterday, an installed it today. Before I even played it for the first time, Impulse popped up with the 2.03 update!

I have GalCiv II: Twilight of the Arnor since the beta.

Strangely I can't update it via impulse. Even worse, Impulse doesn't find the game at all.

I have to install it, but when I try this it gives a weird error: "There was a problem while retrieving your free-space information. You may need to choose a different install or temporary files directory. C:\"

Many things are weird with this.

  • I changed my install and temp dir a zillion times. It's now on O:\
  • There is nothing wrong with C:\ It still has 43 GB free and no other game (same for other Impulse games!) has a problem updating or installing
  • I contacted support many times (now some time ago, as I had other things to do and didn't get anywhere near a solution)

I'm on vista 32 with all updates...

But I want to play it again with the latest update as it is my no. 1 game of all times.

Is there a way I can get a solution.

If we don't find a solution, can I download the latest version from your servers without using impulse.

Please help, it's a registered version and I'm a long-long-longtime customer of Stardock.

Frogboy? Anyone?
