Today I spent a lot of time working on the story elements and timeline for Elemental to make sure it goes along with the book. There, I said it. There’s going to be a book that comes out at roughly the same time as the game.

There’s ten thousand years of history to work through, quite a big difference from what we’ve done in the past where we had just enough story manifested for the game (like in Galactic Civilizations) to proceed.

Having the game and the book being developed at the same time is proving to be marvelous as it allows the game to have a lot more depth even though it’s “only” a strategy game. The scriptable engine allows each so-called sandbox game to have a truly unique life of its own because there’s just such a massive amount of lore to tap into.

Of course, since I worked on that, I wasn’t able to do my walk thru of the alpha. I plan to get on that tomorrow.

For real game tie in we need something like this:

Wow that brings me back in time.  I read that book (several times of course) in elementary school back in the 80s.

I just reserved a bunch for one of my daughters at the local library.  We'll see what she thinks.  They are available for sale too: http://www.cyoa.com/public/index.html

Oh geez... I even still OWN a couple of those type of books.

I loved those kind of books (even LotR had some). I prefered:

With their cousins from Escape from Tenopia.

I remember being absolutely mystified the first time I read that book, and I wasn't dissapointed with very many of the other ones in the series.  Unless something has changed with kids in the last 30 years she should have a good time.

I remember the first time I got ahold of one of those books..... I tried to read it cover-to-cover .......

The book would be a hard cover book (first year and soft cover second year) at the local book store.

I was always partial to Fighting Fantasy:

city of thieves

Ah fighting fantasy I remeber that, the school libary had shelves of them. i must have played through almost all of them: despite the fact that they ended up being very samey. I think my favorite was: Knigths of doom, followed very closely by Crimson Tide.

Knights of doom, what an awesome name

My memory of exactly what happened in them is slighlty hazy, but the covers and the titles are just so "fun".

So now FFH2 and elemental both have their creators writing books on it.

Idea for 2017- Crossover game?  New age of Turn-based fantasy?

Yeah, four more weeks till beta- finally means no more 150ms lag nights of TF2 at work.

Just be glad this isn't Japan- or you'd be getting Elemental Doujinshi.

Nice, didn't realize they were writing a book for FFH2. I am going to have to upgrade Civ4 pretty soon, I've been playing with vanilla Civ4 version of FFH2 and the upgraded ones are supposed to be quite a bit better.

Scoutdog

Well, I only spend around 5% of my time here.... but you're right: I don't exactly have a social life.

As always. Face-to-face contact is overrated, anyways.
