raisinjack: It looks like Kaspersky is just warning you that a zip file contains an exe and it cannot open that zip to scan those files as the zip is password protected.

One of the things that I really liked in SDC was the ability to sort what applications are currently installed and what is available. I don't see that functionality in Impulse though. Is it available or planned?

Hiding functions is a bad UI choice.

Ignore the errors/messages.

The product/source is clean...

I've got an idea. Since I now associate my WC site visits with SDC which I've used as a browser and update manager and since Impulse is the future for program manager and more, how about putting an Impulse button on SDC like maybe on the sidebar and perhaps on the WC site itself? Make it easy for me to open Impulse from any browser would be best.

Ah BDBF, you may have miss this slight little tid bit, Impulse is the replacement for SDC.

I have come to use SDC as you have so it's going to be a learning process, but in time I think Impulse will be all what SDC was/is and more.

I trying to invision Impulse with Object Desktop 2008, can't wait for that.

I got a Kaspersky Virus warning too.

But mine is not to a password-protected zip-file, but to a file called CleanImpulse.exe, which seems to be downloaded from an address starting with: http://dl1.impulsedriven.com/download.ashx?..........

I have the complete url if someone needs it.

I normally trust Stardock completely, but this address really has me irritated, and for now I didn't allow Impulse to update.

Can someone from Stardock please confirm that this address and file are safe?

Can someone from Stardock please confirm that this address and file are safe?

http://dl1.impulsedriven.com/  ImpulseDriven.com is a Stardock Owned domain/website and is safe.

http://vip1.cdn.cachefly.net  Cachefly.net is a content delivery service that Stardock uses to host many of its files to offset bandwidth needs and is safe.

My primary complaint: in my opinion, Impulse (and SDC) should not show the serial numbers for the user's products. It is far too easy for someone, at let's say a LAN party, to launch the application and write down all of a person's codes. I also don't think it's a great idea for Stardock to be asking for these numbers if a user has an account problem. Most other companies never ask for this information, because it's far too easy for it to be manipulated or stolen by an outside source during transmission (or for someone to impersonate Stardock and pry it out of someone).

Here's the things that are wonky for me in Impulse:

It recognizes my GalCiv2 and SoaSE just fine, but for GalCiv1 and AP it finds versions that are not available via SDC. Via SDC I am at 1.22.102 and 1.52b.014 (respectively), and Impulse wants to upgrade to 1.22.104 and 1.52b.015.

Impulse is not finding my Dark Avatar or Twilight of the Armor at all. For both it is also seeing versions that are not available on SDC. Via SDC I am at 1.80g.100 and 0.97[b].001 (respectively) and Impulse wants to install 1.80g.102 and 0.98[b].010.

Please make an option to have smaller icons, plus display programs in list mode instead. As is the entire application takes up too much space.

I'm also surprised to see so few options for Preferences. There's a lot more I can tweak with SDC.

The application is looking modern, but right now it has a long way to go to properly compete. I appreciate the effort, but besides looks, I can't see what this is offering over SDC. Right now it seems to be a lot LESS powerful than SDC.

Sorry for the criticism, but I do overall love what Stardock stands for, and am pushing for you guys to get better. Good luck,

-HM
