Brad Wardell's site for talking about the customization of Windows.

Have some change you would like to see made to JoeUser? Make it here.

I'll get the ball rolling:

  1. Make the editor clearly show the "more" tag (type more with brackets around it to control which part is the summary).
  2. Get rid of the little arrow image that appears next to links. It's distracting.
  3. Have the most recent article comments find the blog article first and only use the forums if there is no blog connected to it. I don't like being switched to the forums.
  4. If I do go to the forums, don't make me logon.
  5. Don't have my logon expire on forums or on JU ever. I don't want to have to relogon.
  6. Get the "more" (full listing) of popular articles and recent article comments implemented so that I can see them.
  7. Fix bug where some Stardock support forums show up in the recent article comments.
  8. Implement full leading blogs and leading users lists so that I can click on them and see a full listing on each.
  9. Users with access level > citizen should not see any ads.
  10. Make a user's blog roll show up on every sidebar that's related to their blog (i.e. if I click on one of my articles, I want my blog roll to show up).
  11. The new rich text editor is really slow to work with (I normally use live writer but when I do use the new editor it's painful).
  12. When I am reading an article and it says "by user in blogging" and I click on blogging, I expect ot be taken to the main blogging category index not just the ones from that personal site.
  13. It is difficult for users to go to the specific blog-specific channels from a user's home page. That is, if users wanted to read just my artcles on PC gaming, they'd have a rough time doing it.
  14. The tags on blogs are always the global tags. There should be per-site tags generated.
  15. Need an easy way to tell if a category link is referencing just the articles in the user's personal category or the entire site. I.e. Just my articles on Politics or all of teh articles on politics. Users should be able to easily tell which is which and there are times when users are going to want to quickly jump to a full list of articles on politics versus just the articles written by that blogger.

That's my start.

More worship of me.

You know, when you get time.

Or more seriously, feature some writing once in awhile. Short stories, poems, songs...pop a little artsy fartsy stuff on that front page. I know I've read some rather profound things and yet they never get any center stage time.

Just a thought.

1. I'd really like the navigation strip (Home > Xxxxx > Xxxxx) to appear at the top of the Forums home page.

2. I'd like the Back button to actually take you back where you came from. If you're in My Replies and click on an article, read the replies, then hit the Back button, you're taken to the article itself rather than back to My Replies.

3. I'd like to see the forum take you to your last reply when you click on an article you've replied to, the way JU1 did. I believe this is likely on the implementation list already, but just in case.

More options to customize our blogs.

I believe it has been mentioned in multiple articles, including the ones announcing the beta and the launch of JU2, and several since, that blog customization features are coming and will be richer than those available in JU1.

As for Safari compatibility, it might become more attractive as iPhone/iPodTouch use becomes more extensive. I plan to have one (iPhone) by summer & would love to be able to have full access/use of the site from it. I realize the Apple/iPhone market is dwarfed by the PC market, but one can always hope.

Hiya, JU admins

First off, thanks for putting forth the effort to redo this site.

My 2 cents:

1.  More customization on my blog (with colors and such...how shallow am I)

2.  The homepage does seem a bit cluttered. Like others, I did like the sidebar on the old version that allowed me to skim recent articles, recent forum posts, etc.  prettye easily.

One more cent:   Is there a way you could accept something bigger than a 50x50 avatar then resize from there? Thanks.

I'd like the front page to be customizable to what you want to see, ie, show articles from the categories YOU want to see instead of 'hot categories' or whatever. That may already be on the list (ie, friends list) but I think categories will be more helpful for the newer people who don't have any friends yet.

What happened to reply 4 in the forums?

That's a good question...

lol, I guess we just don't like #4.  I checked about 20 articles, and they all go 1,2,3,5....  Weirdest bug ever!

I see personal customization is in the work so I don't need to say anything about that!

My next suggestion would be to allow users to be able to select the correct categories they want their blog to be published in from Live Writer.  It works well for me except for that part!

Also, each time I'm reading an article, I'm about to reply but can't because I'm "a guest" and need to log in? That's when the article is in the Forums and I've previously selected it from  from the home page.

Oh one other thing, I don't think I've seen this written so if I'm repeating, I'm sorry....when a reader is commenting on a blog, selecting quote, puts that quote on top of a previous quote and comment.  I've figured out what to do to make this not happen but it would be nice if it can just automatically go in the right line and in the right position.

It's not a bug, it's a feature! The answer seems obvious to me.

I've been lurking around ever since the upgrade, and this is the first time that I've logged in. You regulars probably login all of the time, so you'd never know why this is happening.

When you are not logged in, reply #4 is always an advertisement. When you are logged in, you don't see the advertisements. However, it appears that the ad is a placeholder, and therefore the next reply is #5.

Hope this helps.

Very possible that this has been mentioned, sorry if it has:

Please adjust the category option for new articles.  Why not have everything collapsed by default and let the user expand the subject they want?  As it is, I have to collapse a bunch to just try to find what category I am looking for.

Reinstall the political filter to keep out TheGuyPC...temperates, moderates, liberals, conservatives, dissidents and commie bastards.

Karma...I could tell you...but then I'd have to kill you...

Just ask Andrew....

....and watch him closely...methinks he is up to no good....

yeah. I think having articles with the first paragraph or two show up on front pages of user blogs would be a good idea, rather than the last paragraph or sentence.  It's like only watching the first minute of a good movie (if the title draws you in) and the last ten minutes of one.
