Jazz up your Windows mouse cursor
Published on February 19, 2008 By Frogboy In WinCustomize News

CursorFX 2.0.008 has been released! CursorFX is a program that brings the Windows mouse cursor into the 21st century with fluid animation support, alpha blending, motion smoothing, cursor sizing, effects for different amount events and more.

CursorFX was designed to replace CursorXP. The initial roll-out of CursorFX was a little bumpy, demonstrating the challenges of developing a brand new desktop enhancement in a world divided between Windows XP and Windows Vista users.

Here's what's new in CursorFX:

- Fix for Powerpoint issue
- Fixes for slow/choppy cursor.
- Fixes for process priority.
- Fixes to solve crash on loading Control panel with some old cursors.
- Improved Control panel load time.
- Fix for CursorFX cursors disappearing on IconPackager apply.
- Fixed compatibility with some games and applications.
- Seamless support for CursorXP cursors.

Still no system tray icon?
Ugh.  But I guess it'd be nice to have the option.

Yeah, it is nice. Quick and convenient way of switching between themes. I use mine with CursorXP all the time.

Loads faster than a bullfrog wearing running shoes!
33 seconds on my PC to be exact. I can fire up Adobe Photoshop several times in 33 secs, which makes CursorFX the slowest program on my computer to start. That, in addition to known and reportetd bugs, makes me stick with the ole' CursorXp a lil' longer.

I am running FX Plus on XP , with good mem and card . Applying "Trails" really , i mean really chops the animation on ObjectDock . Should i place a call to support?

I am upset. It doesn't love me. I have written about this three times now, but apparently nobody cares. It doesn't love me, therefore it has nothing to do on my PC. still a memory conflict with TabTip.exe when you have a pen tablet installed on Vista. uses up more than 50% CPU (TabTip.exe and dwm.exe). A no go, at least for me. I can't believe I am the only one trying to run this with pen tablet. Could at least somebody try to verify this? sad

CFX control panel loads in a dash under 6 seconds on my machine. That's fresh from boot (no cache cheating) on a P4/2.8 running WinXPHome, certainly nothing hot, with 115 objects in the Themes directory. Ya I'm happy with that.

Don't know where a 33 second load time would come from?

I just dragged the .CurXPTheme files over into the new CursorFX\Themes directory using Windows Explorer. Don't know if that's the "best" way, but it seemed to work fine for me.

One note though, you might do a chunk of 10 or 20 first, then open up the CFX config window and see how it reacts at this point. If you drag like 500 themes or something over all at once, I'm not sure how it would react, might have to chew on them for awhile (or choke). On a previous version I did a chunk of 50 and it wasn't a problem.

Up until this update, whenever I'd download a new cursor set, it'd install it and ask me if I want to apply right away. Now it just installs and applies anyway without asking like CursorXP did. Why??? Being asked whether I want the new cursor applied was actually one of the best simple new features of CursorFX that I liked.

Before I just added FX to the downloaded zip file and all loaded nicely. Now XP opens the file but I can't get FX to store it in it's lib. What's the problem? I have FX Plus.

I have 2 big problems with CursorFX 2.0.008! 1. It will not let me restore my default Vista cursor. 2. When UAC pops up I can not move my cursor.
