Stardock New Years Resolutions
Published on January 1, 2008 By Frogboy In WinCustomize News

Here are 10 things I think Stardock must do in 2008:

#1 Make Object Desktop 2008 vastly more polished and usable to new users and then cater to power users with Object Destop Ultimate.

#2 Get MyColors EVERYWEHERE.

#3 Create BootVista so that people can change their Windows Vista boot screens more easily - and safely.

#4 Make sure CursorFX is bullet proof and ready for wide release.

#5 Continue to improve WindowBlinds this year, especially in the area of font handling (both in letting users change fonts and skin authors being able to control font colors in various areas more explicitly).

#6 Launch JoeUser.com 2008 and use that as the means to greatly enhance WinCustomize.com and other community sites.

#7 Release the major revamp of ObjectDock that has been in development for the past several months.

#8 Get the next-generation replacement to Stardock Central out the door.

#9 Release the next-generation IconPackager such that existing icon packages are useful on Windows Vista.

#10 Get Stardock Design to release a LOT of free content to help demonstrate what is possible and serve as an example to others.

Add Windowblinds recoloring feature to ALL Stardock products...(even extending that capability to wallpapers)

I think that was the single best feature you added last year.

Should have also mentioned that this is a pretty good list, to start with

I would add get the new skinstudio all cinched up and I would like to see a Vista version of WindowFX.

Sounds like there's lots to look forward to.

It sounds all good.

I'm going to have to spend more time here than I do now

And what happened to the rest of ThinkDesk?

Amen to that!

And just stop it with all of this Vista crap and concentrate on finishing/polishing/fixing all of the current, existing Stardock products to work correctly on Windows XP! Let's finally roll out the various ODNT components promised to us back in 1999 that still have not materialized!!
on Jan 02, 2008

What ODNT components were promised to you in 1999 that you haven't received?

ThinkDesk has had problems completing two key components: ThinkSync and SecureProcess.  Windows Vista threw a big wrench in with SecureProcess and ThinkSync is having similar issues with all the network security layers.

But Multiplicity and KeepSafe updates are in the pipeline.

Fix CursorFX so that the people who are going ahead and purchasing the pro version can actually register the product and not get "The serial number is not valid". Been waiting since I got it to get someone to give me a valid serial number!!!!

Well, at least since 2002, Image Viewer is one component that was mentioned in the 'coming soon' section that has never materialized. There were probably a few others, but I can't dig through any archives at the moment, Brad. And as far as ThinkDesk goes - to me, KeepSafe and ThinkSync are the two compelling components to purchase... but KeepSafe won't work on Server-class OS's, where I think I'd want to run it the most - and it'd be the most useful; and it's just not very economical - ODNT = 29 apps for $50; ThinkDesk = 4 apps for $70. And, again - just stop with the Vista already... it's doomed. That's my point... FIX things to work on XP instead of continually having to reinvent the plumbing to work on MS's newest abomination.

Things have worked fine for me on XP though admittedly I only use Iconpackager, WB and CursorXP regularly. I would use more except my laptop struggles if I run more stuff. I am excited about what is on the list and coming.

#26 Make Stardock Design update the great old skins, suites and ICONS still available in the shop to work with the newest OSes, SD software and their abilities as even those would still get new purchases enough to pay the updates for existing users (heck, I even would pay a small update fee for Carbonix or Pauls icons updated for Vista...)
