10 New Years Resolutions for the PC Industry

Happy New Years folks and that means it's time for New Years resolutions. We have some suggested resolutions for the PC Industry that will help them...and us!

#1 To the PC Makers: Stop pre-loading shareware. Nothing is more annoying than getting a new PC loaded with "trial versions" of programs. Just stop it.

#2 To Microsoft: Get Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista out there ASAP and make sure IE 7 doesn't hang anymore for no apparent reason.

#3 To Apple: Get that 3G iPhone out the door sooner rather than later. GPS on it would be nice too.

#4 To the RIAA: Just stop it. I mean, seriously, just stop.

#5 To Jack Thompson: Get a new hobby. Better yet, get a life. In a world in which one can't escape "The Girls Next Door" on TV are video games really a threat?

#6 To Google: Please make a Project Management extension to Google Calendar!

#7 To the BluRay and HD-DVD consortiums, please find a way to work together. You're just slowing down adoption (massively).

#8 To Amazon: Just because you think it might be patentable doesn't mean you should try to patent it.

#9 To Bloggers: This year is the US Presidential Election. Just remember, just because someone doesn't agree with your political opinion doesn't mean they're a bunch of sub-human monsters who eat babies.

#10 To Internet Users: Just remember that there is another person on the other side of that screen. Just because they aren't there to punch you in the nose doesn't mean you should surrender any semblance of civility on-line.

I'd like to see all PC Makers replace all those damn wires that lead from the back of your monitor, computer, printer etc etc with a seamless little wireless system where everything talks to each other...........without the need of cables. I guess there are most probably a few high end systems out there that can do it but I'd like to see it available on every system.

#12 When customer service/warranty is offered/paid for.... actually deliver and stop forcing consumers to jump through hoops to get it.

Agreed, their fascist methods have gotten way out of hand. Spying on internet users, demanding isp records, serving lawsuits on minors and seniors ect... But what's more appalling is how software developers (ie microsft), hardware manufacturers (ie western digital) and governments both local and abroad are capitulating to the RIAA...

I think they have totally lost their way, do they really think handing out lawsuits to grandma and grandpa everywhere is going to stop joe schmoe from the next apartment over from downloading the latest Korn album or whatever. It's a bit ridiculous IMHO.

I have to disagree with #1...all those craplets keep pc prices low...and disappear completely when you do a fresh install...the first thing I do to a new pc.

To Gamers:

#1 If you're over 12 and you're still talking like you're your shoe size, stop it!

#2 Stop buying games you know you are going to play but you bought it cause you got caught up in the hype. (there's a reason for rentals and "hits" collections)

#3 If you're a game server admin and you're losing, don't kick/ban or change the map just becuase you're bitter.

#4 Stop reporting the same bug as 100 people before you did on developer forums. Unless you have new information, you're just wasting everybody's time.

#5 Let's not berate games for which we've only seen screenshots. You might want to play it first.

#6 Don't complain about the game drough this summer when there are plenty indie games you haven't seen yet.

#7 If you are a 12 year old gamer, act like your mother taught you some sense.

#8 Enough with the multiplayer hacking. It's really not that funny and it's gonna get you banned.

#9 You already have a microphone. There's no need to yell.

#10 I understand 1337 speak is common, but I swear, english is too.
