Flight Simulator, Super Huey, Starcross, Dragon Warrior 1, Final Fantasy 1, Zelda 2, Crystalis, Larn, Mines of Moria/Angband, Corewars, Intra-Galactic Battles, Land of Devastation, Tank Wars, Space Quest 3, Elite Plus, Red Baron, Descent 1, Wing Commander 1, Earthsiege, Master of Orion, Final Fantasy 7, Unreal 1, Spyro 2, Starfleet Command 2, Galactic Civilizations 1, Ratchet and Clank 2, Grandia 3, Mana Khemia, Dragon Quest 8, Rogue Galaxy.

Kind of shows how I bounced from Atari 8-bit to NES, back to PC, then BBSes, back over to Playstation, etc, and how I can't really stick to the same genre.

FSX, Mechwarrior [pretty much all of them], GrandPrix2,3,4, Wolfenstein, Quake, Duke Nukem, GTR, GTR2, Halo, Max Payne, Unreal Tournament, TerraNova ....

Too many to really list but I'll try to pull up the obvious ones that come to mind.

Lucasarts adventure games (all of them pretty much), Deus Ex (best FPS-RPG of all time for me), Thief (especially 2), Ape Escape, Super Mario World, Sonic And Knuckles, Flashback, Pitfall, Metal Gear Solid, Star Fox 64, Starsiege, Unreal Tournament 2003/4, Half Life, Homeworld (1, Cataclysm and 2), Command & Conquer (all of the Westwood titles), Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Freespace 2 and Beyond Good & Evil.

The list could go on but those are the games that jump out of my mind as being some of the most important ones during growing up and teens.

Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology, Rome: Total War, Gal Civ II (half of the time spent in the ship designer), Endless Legend, Endless Space 2, Master of Orion II (despite the star lanes and the unbalanced civs I think the new one isn't that bad), Civ III and IV, KOTOR I and especially II, Europa Universalis III, Victoria II (with new nations mod or historical project mod), Hearts of Iron: Darkest Hour, Battlefield: Bad Company II, Mount and Blade: Warband, Subnautica, SimCity 3000, Tropico 4, Metal Gear Solid, Spyro 2 and 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Pokémon Crystal, Zelda: The Oracle of Seasons

Mostly strategy games, I also really like setting up production chains or transport networks in games like Tropico and Victoria II or Sim City.

I'm guessing favorite games. It started with the Atari with me. Pitfall, Sword quest earth world, and Joust. With the Nintendo Zelda. With the Sega Genesis it was Street fighter the Champion edition and Super street fighter 2, Fantasy star 3 and 4, and Mutant league football. With the Play station 1 it was Street fighter ex plus a, Monster Rancher, and Sim city. With the computer it has been call to power and Civilization 4, Galactic civilizations 2 and 3, and Buldurs gate.

Oh man...

Star Raiders started it all.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_VDM8nC9sM

King of the Ramtop (One I programmed myself back in the 80's ffs- basically an early version of Total War about 15 years before they got around to it, but done in 48kb)

Ancient Art of War...

and then too many games to mention once I got a PC.

Star Control 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3, TIE fighter, Knights of the Old Republic, Age of Wonders 2,  Unreal Tournament, Ascendancy, Diablo 1.

The games I play don't shape who I am.   They are a diversion; an escape.   However, all the time I have spent beating strategy games has probably made me a better technical guy, strategizing how to debug and solve problems.   Similar to how FPS experts are better hand-eye coordination people.

Speaking of this:

Age of Wonders 2

I played that, but I have played AoW3 much more.  Steam offered a free download of that a few weeks back.  Ironically....

I feel strongly that AoW3 *deserves* our money.   Very simple reason:   Offline Mode.   You can have no online credentials--or even if you do--you have the option to play offline.  Your Steam hours are not logged, you are not watched, no internet connection required.   Oh yeah, what a concept!

These guys are bucking the bandwagon and doing the right thing instead.  Even more than that--they offered a free download.  They want you to buy the DLC once you're hooked.  It's an old game, 2014.  I would barely have even heard of AoW3 were it not free.  I have no qualms buying their DLC, even if I don't play it very much.  It's like not even $10, and if I plunked down $10 on a Steam sale for Galciv3 Retribution, which besides not having an offline mode--it's not even a finished product--then AoW3 deserves my money all the more.
