Brad Wardell's site for talking about the customization of Windows.

Greetings!

Lots of exciting things happening with Ashes of the Singularity.  With Star Control: Origins released, we've been able to give Ashes some new attention and I wanted to use this post to update you on where we are.

Engine porting

Under the game is the game engine which in Ashes 1.0 was pure Nitrous.  These days, we have taken the Nitrous engine and integrated all the cool stuff we've developed over the years (Game engine wise) to create a game-specific engine we call Cider.  So right now, we're porting Cider to Linux with Ashes being our first test.

The good news is that we have Ashes kind of sort of working natively on Linux.  The bad news is that the performance isn't quite there yet.  Vulkan is the graphics platform we're targeting and it's still very young.

New entries in the universe

We are working on a new game in the Ashes of the Singularity universe that we will be announcing next month.  Ashes founders will get it either for free or at a steep discount depending on what type of Founder they are.

Ashes sequels

So the short version is that we aren't going to be making new expansions for Ashes of the Singularity I.  There might be more DLC but the changes we want to make are a little too radical to have as an expansion.   My next post will be talking about what we have in mind for the sequel so you guys can opine on it.  But if you liked SupCom or TA then you will really like where we want to take the sequel.

Stay tuned!

This is exciting news, and I want to thank you all for the passion and creativity that went to creating Ashes also.  Still enjoying playing it, and I especially loved the latest content updates that brought extra options for static turrets emplacements and the Tier 4 units.  You’re doing God’s work in the RTS base-building genre, and you’re just about the last folks in town that are.  At least the kind of RTS games I look for.

Looking forward to the new project!

Did the info about a sequel ever get published?

Not yet. Right now we have launched the tower defense spin-off Siege of Centauri in early access on Steam.

I am way late to this, but I don't look at tower style games and something deep like a world builder.  I look at it more like a strategy game,  the types of towers you earn, how they are placed.  There is tech advancement, but it's kept simpler, you increase power options or add different types of damage.  The thing that turns me off about many universe/world building games is the complexity is so deep, the game ends up in trivialization, I hate games that make me micro manage.   I don't want to build factories that increase my tech, I want to win tech by grabbing it from a kill, or because I built up that tower over time.  Don't turn this tower game into a tower Galactic Civilization.  Tower games attract a whole different class of people like me who want to blow things up without having to micro manage ever single tower and tech

Thank you, hopefully the you have something for the E3?

Hey guys this is getting a bit ridiculous. It's July and you mentioned the Ashes sequel in January while saying that more info would be coming soon.

I paid close to 100 bucks for the Ashes founder's edition and still think I didn't really get enough for that money. It's a cool game, it really is, and it's good I supported you. That's what I wanted.

The problem is, I still really want a real SupCom successor! This is what you enticed in January and you keep us all hanging in the air. Chris Taylor did it, too. About two or three years ago he said he would do a new RTS but nothing was heard of that anymore. Could you just please do it?! SupCom done with today's tools and abilities. Maybe with some R&D elements mixed, like in Sins, with one or two more factions and more units, more experimentals and better unit design aesthetics. The only two things SupCom 2 did good was

1st giving each faction a real design theme. (Nearly) All cybrans were walking things, all aeons hovering things, all coalition tracked things. The bad thing was, everything looked a bit like out of a babies' toys market.

2nd introducing a research/development tree.

Now, go ahead and do it and first hurry up and give us some information on what you have in mind when talking about an Ashes sequel!

Actually, he is working on it and it is called Galactic Space Empire. It might not something you expect since it is a one person indie game, more or less but you can even sign up somewhere for the beta.

We know that people are excited to have a new game. When we have something more to announce we will.

Thank you for the information, Ed! I didn'nt know that. Sadly, it won't be a SupCom successor...

I thought you will. It would be nice though, if you you wouldn`t announce more information and then don't give the information. I am looking forward to see what you're working on.
