I'm posting this on my brand-new 4K monitor.

I'm not saying that having this monitor makes me better than you.

I'm not saying that having this monitor makes me morally superior.

[[..]]

But I'm not saying it doesn't either.

If you have Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade you probably find the new economy to be a massive change from the base game.

If you don't have Crusade, well, yea, you're a bad person. Like, literally (not figuratively) history's greatest monster.  Go get it now HERE.

TRICK #1: Your Citizens are your most valuable resource

Every 10 turns you get a citizen.  What you do with them is how you control your empire.

image

You see my production here? It's huge.  How did that happen? I invested 2 scientists, an entrepreneur and a worker.

TRICK #2: Adjacency Bonuses matter a LOT:

image

On the picture above, my Space Elevator only provides 2 normally.  Put 3 factories around it and it goes up to 5.  That's more than a doubling.

Back in the base game, you didn't get "hubs" until later.  In Crusade, it's the other way around. You start with hubs and then can put things around them to really get your production to take off.

image

See my research? It's 35 per turn! It started at 3.  How did I get the 10X increase?  By default, the computer core only gives +1 research. But by putting it next to my capital and 2 research centers I got it to 5.

Then, my research centers, like my factories, only do a little bit on their own but when they're adjacent they give huge bonuses.  Then add two scientists and boom.  The 10 points from my population with +5 from the computer score gets doubled by the adjacencies.

Why didn't the base game have such a cool setup? Because the AI wouldn't have been able to handle it.  When GalCiv III shipped, we assumed 2 CPU cores.  For Crusade, we targeted 4 CPU cores (you reading this probably have 4 or more).  That means the AI can split out its analysis while you take your turn and do much more complex decision making than before.

More to come...

how big is that 4k though...

and... you sure it's not a typo and you meant to type 8k instead?

can't imagine a 8k desktop on a tiny 32" text must be tiny...

on May 07, 2017

It's 32 inches!

My 4k is 28". That means I'm slightly less on a piedestal than Frogboy. Also, imho, 28" is too small for 4k.

THIS FROGBOY use a simple TRICK to get MASSIVE boost to his COLONY! FIND OUT HOW!

BASICALLY your COLONY can't COMPETE!

COLONY governor HATE him!

This pretty shameless Frogboy, don't you think?

I will just give you some of the issues I found in my my first game (up to turn 200-ish):

 - Synthetic pop cap does not apply. I can happily build 50 citizens on a planet without building a power matrix or researching their tech branch
 - empty tech branches (spark of live etc.)
 - Tech branches that don't work (aquatic research on a synthetic race for example)
 - mass numbers in the ship designer don't add up
 - wrong or misleading tooltips:
-> Discreet does one hell of a lot more than just give you a free merc at the start. Making it one of the best abilities in the game.
-> benevolent research tier 3 does not provide a +200% research building anymore
-> leaders give a flat +1 in addition to the 6%, moving them form 'meh' to essential
 - tech costing way more research points than comparable tech (beam and kinetic weapon miniaturization)

As much as I want to say about your smug statement above, I will stick with the points above, since they are objective.

This release feels rushed.

I guess I am bad. I only have a 17" 4k screen... On my laptop.  Oh well, someday I will be cool!   Ha

Yep....you're weird....but we knew that...

Trouble is....online humour....sometimes you gotta know the comedian...

Hey, after this many decades of perfecting this level of weirdness it's no longer possible to hide it any more...

Trouble is....online humour....sometimes you gotta know the comedian...

Or at least be able to relate to the type of humor. And just because you're down under doesn't mean you get to keep adding letters to words!

And dang it.....'humour' is a real word...stop underlining it...

It is!?!

Text can be easily to misinterpret because you can't hear the voice and tone. It spark out so many internet drama. That said, if you don't know the comedian, it feel almost like he insulting people for not having Crusade which is not his intention.

Something I've never been clear on... does it count if you have two cores and each can handle two threads? Is that sort of like having four cores, or is it just a marketing gimmick? Those of us who are poor and got our computers from really really nice friends want to know...
